If your organization has been considering installing public EV charging infrastructure in British Columbia, now may be the right time to move your project forward.
The CleanBC Go Electric Public Charger Program is currently accepting applications, offering businesses, municipalities, not-for-profits, Indigenous communities, utilities and eligible public-sector organizations financial support to install publicly accessible EV charging infrastructure across B.C.
Eligible projects can receive up to $80,000 per fast-charging port, covering as much as 75% of eligible project costs. Indigenous communities may qualify for enhanced funding of up to $130,000 per fast-charging port and up to 90% of project costs.
Applications for the current funding intake must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time on September 18, 2026, and funding is being awarded through a competitive application process.
How Much Funding Is Available?
Funding depends on the output of the charging equipment:

Eligible costs can extend beyond the charging equipment itself. Depending on the project, funding may apply toward installation labour and materials, electrical equipment, transformers, earthworks, paving, bollards, lighting, signage, network equipment, engineering and design services, utility connection fees, initial network fees and certain equipment warranties.
That can make the program particularly valuable for organizations planning larger public charging projects where infrastructure and installation work represent a significant portion of the investment.
Who Can Apply?
Eligible applicants include registered:
- Businesses
- Not-for-profit organizations
- Indigenous communities
- Local governments
- Utilities
- Eligible public-sector organizations operating in British Columbia
Applicants must own and operate the charging infrastructure and either own the project site or have written permission from the site owner to use it for at least ten years.
The program is designed primarily to expand B.C.’s public fast-charging network, with particular priority given to projects addressing gaps in rural, northern and Indigenous communities, as well as urban areas experiencing strong EV adoption and increased demand for public charging.
What Does an Eligible Charging Site Look Like?
There are several important requirements organizations should consider before applying.
Among them, projects must generally be located in B.C., provide 24/7/365 public access, remain operational for at least five years, and bill drivers based on the electricity delivered in kilowatt-hours rather than charging time.
A major requirement for the current intake is that each site include at least two independent charging stations. For example, this could include two DC fast chargers or a combination of a fast charger and one or more eligible Level 2 chargers. A single multi-port charger by itself does not satisfy this requirement.
Eligible fast chargers must also be networked and OCPP-compatible, provide at least 20 kW of power and use eligible connector types such as CCS or NACS/J3400. Additional technical, payment and accessibility requirements also apply.
